چکیده

Microbial-induced calcite precipitation (MICP) is a natural process that offered various applications in the engineering field materials and construction industry. It has recently emerged as an innovative, eco-friendly, economically engineeredprocess. One of successful MICP methods improving properties soils ureolysis. The ureolysis drove precipitate which binds soil particles within matrix thus enhance characteristicssuch stiffness, permeability, hydraulic conductivity, shear strength, compressive strength. This paper aimed at reviewing concept utilizing calcium carbonate (CaCO3) by ureolytic bacteria towards improvement sand for geotechnical applications. potential this technologyin erosion, stability, reinforcement were discussed. Detail overviews temperature, pH, cell concentration, nutrients, types bacteria, concentration reactants affect efficiency are also reviewed. review demonstrated technology from laboratory to field-scale or commercial

An Overview of the Factors Affecting Microbial-Induced Calcite Precipitation and its Potential Application in Soil Improvement

Microbial-induced calcite precipitation (MICP) is a relatively green and sustainable soil improvement technique. It utilizes biochemical process that exists naturally in soil to improve engineering properties of soils. The calcite precipitation process is uplifted by the mean of injecting higher concentration of urease positive bacteria and reagents into the soil. The main objective of this pap...

FIB/SEM Imaging of Microbial Induced Calcite Precipitation in Sandy Soil

As one of the emerging soil improvement techniques, microbial induced calcite precipitation (MICP) can bond soil grains together and improve the engineering properties of soil [1]. bacteria produces urease enzyme can catalyze urea to carbonate and result in calcite precipitation in elevated pH environment. The forms of calcite precipitation around the bacteria limit the availability of oxygen a...

Effect of Magnesium as Substitute Material in Enzyme-Mediated Calcite Precipitation for Soil-Improvement Technique

The optimization of enzyme-mediated calcite precipitation was evaluated as a soil-improvement technique. In our previous works, purified urease was utilized to bio-catalyze the hydrolysis of urea, which causes the supplied Ca(2+) to precipitate with [Formula: see text] as calcium carbonate. In the present work, magnesium chloride was newly added to the injecting solutions to delay the reaction ...

Microbially Induced Calcite Precipitation Employing Environmental Isolates

In this study, five microbes were employed to precipitate calcite in cohesionless soils. Four microbes were selected from calcite-precipitating microbes isolated from calcareous sand and limestone cave soils, with Sporosarcina pasteurii ATCC 11859 (standard strain) used as a control. Urease activities of the four microbes were higher than that of S. pasteurii. The microbes and urea-CaCl₂ medium...

Urease activity in microbiologically-induced calcite precipitation.

The role of microbial urease in calcite precipitation was studied utilizing a recombinant Escherichia coli HB101 containing a plasmid, pBU11, that encodes Bacillus pasteurii urease. The calcite precipitation by E. coli HB101 (pBU11) was significant although its precipitation level was not as high as that by B. pasteurii. Addition of low concentrations (5-100 microM) of nickel, the cofactor of u...
